Established in 1996 as the local affiliate of Merriman Anderson Architects of Dallas, Texas, Merriman Schmitt Architects has grown into a successful national architecture and interiors firm providing a wide array of design services, including site master planning, architecture, interior architecture/design/space planning, construction document preparation, construction administration, and 3D rendering and visualization to clients nationwide.
Merriman Schmitt Architects professionals are affiliated with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Code Council (ICC) and International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

steve schmitt, aia, ncarb

Steve Schmitt is the president of Merriman Schmitt Architects. Since co-founding the firm with Jerry Merriman in 1996, he has led the design of nearly 40 million square feet of office, industrial/distribution/manufacturing, retail, and other commercial spaces. Additionally he has been responsible for millions of square feet of interiors. Steve brings more than 35 years of experience in design and project management in a broad range of commercial architectural projects. He provides hands-on leadership to the programming and design process as well as construction and technical expertise. Currently MSA employs 5 professional in the Charlotte office.

craig fleming

Craig Fleming is principal of the architecture studio at Merriman Schmitt Architects. He brings a wealth of experience in his more than 17 years with MSA managing projects from design schematics, through construction documents and construction administration. Expertise includes high-rise and mid-rise Class A office, industrial/flex and advanced technology, medical office, retail shopping centers and mixed use projects. Craig is directly responsible for coordination of project scheduling, production and resource allocation.

nawazish g. nanji 'nicky' aia, ncarb, leed ap bd+c

Nicky is a principal architect at Merriman Schmitt Architects. He has 16 years of experience that includes a wide spectrum of commercial, financial, infrastructure, private, healthcare, educational, and public works clients. Nicky focusses on the design of spaces with an emphasis on creating an environment that is client focused. His knowledge of technical presentation, two and three-dimensional design, construction techniques and administration have helped him manage several million square feet of interior & exterior building design & construction.

anne schmitt

Anne Schmitt is the business Manager at Merriman Schmitt Architects, and a sixth generation Charlottean who earned her MBA in 1994 and an MFA in creative writing in 2016.

  She works part time at Merriman Schmitt Architecture managing the business financials.  When she isn’t working at MSA, you can find her on the tennis court, volunteering for local nonprofit organizations or in a quiet place writing essays, short stories and a historical novel.
