Girl Scouts Get a Taste of Architecture at MSA

February 20, 2009

CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 20, 2009 -- Cadet Girl Scouts from Troop 1458 recently spent a full day with Merriman Schmitt working toward the requirements for their architecture interest patch.  The badge is one of several requirements necessary to obtain the Girl Scout leadership award.

The girls spent the day shadowing MSA staff who shared details about working in the design field and the educational requirements for becoming an architect.  The girls had the opportunity to use AutoCAD for some simple design work, pick out finishes in the firm's sample room, and research green products and recent innovations in the design field.  The girls completed their work by presenting their findings to troop leaders and MSA staff.

As part of their leadership award, the girls plan to share their knowledge about architecture with a junior troop this spring.
