Steve Schmitt Named President of Merriman Schmitt Architects

CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 7, 2008 – Steve Schmitt, AIA, has been named president of Merriman Schmitt Architects of Charlotte.

Schmitt completed a 10-year buyout agreement Dec. 31, 2007, with Jerry Merriman of Merriman Architects of Dallas, to become sole owner and president of the Charlotte-based firm the two formed in 1997. The two formed the firm in 1996 as the Charlotte affiliate of Merriman Architects.

Merriman Schmitt Architects will continue to operate using the Merriman name and is finalizing an alliance agreement with Merriman Architects that will enable the two firms to continue to work together on nationally significant design projects.

Merriman Schmitt Architects, with offices at 610 East Morehead St., has 12 employees, and provides master planning, architectural design, 3D rendering, interior design and construction administration to clients nationwide. The firm specializes in designing Class A office buildings, retail and mixed-use projects, and industrial and distribution facilities.

Merriman Schmitt Architects recently won two separate design awards for the firm’s design of the American LaFrance headquarters and fire apparatus manufacturing facility outside Charleston, S.C., and has gained acclaim for the most recent office building in American Asset Corporation’s Whitehall office project that includes the enormous metal human head sculpture, Metalmorphosis, by Czech artist David Cerny. It’s retail and mixed-use projects in Mooresville for Pinnacle Properties – Legacy Village and Mooresville Town Square – are being hailed by planners as the new standard for retail development in fast-growing southern Iredell County.

Founded in 1996, Merriman Schmitt Architects, Inc., is based in Charlotte and specializes in the design of Class A office buildings, industrial and distribution facilities, retail shopping centers and mixed-use facilities. Services include architectural design, interior architecture, site master planning, 3D rendering, construction document preparation and construction administration.
